We are so fortunate that my little blog has helped us connect with like-minded creatives from all around the world. We were absolutely buzzing with our most recent collaboration, shooting with one of Bali’s most sought after wedding photography teams, Avara Photography. I actually started following Avara‘s Instagram account when designing the travel itinerary for our Bali trip. They had the most amazing pictures of Bali’s infamous rice terraces that caught my eye. After exchanging a ton of likes, comments and several direct messages we locked in a couples photoshoot. We had a blast shooting with Avara. From adventuring though the layer-cake-like emerald foliage of the Tegalalang Rice Terraces to standing hand-in-hand several feet away from the thundering waters of Tegenungan Waterfall.
During our time spent with Avara we discovered the advantages of working with local photographers, particularly if you are considering a destination-wedding. So along with our favourite pics from the photoshoot, we’ve listed below some benefits of hiring a local photographer to capture your wedding day.
They talk the talk.
This is an obvious benefit. Imagine trying to politely tell a group of locals (or photo-bombers) to get out of frame? How about not being able to read a private property sign? Little things like this can cause major headaches on your special day. The Avara team not only spoke english, they could communicate with the locals on our behalf.
They are down with the locals.
Avara have well established relationships with the managers of locations we ventured too. We weren’t charged ridiculous amounts for shooting permits. We were also granted passage in areas other tourists were not.
Forget the scouting, locals know all the hidden exotic
locations to create the perfect backdrop for your photos, and the quickest and cheapest way to get there. The Avara team had us up at the crack of dawn and running on schedule to ensure we caught
the perfect light as seen in our beautiful images.
More bang for your buck.
Costs can soar when flying in a photographer from overseas rather than hiring local. You will need to consider if your photographer will be charging for travel and accommodation, which may quickly blow the budget.
