Wellington has had a rough run with the weather of recent, miserably cold!

Last Sunday the sun came out to play, so unexpected as it was pouring-down in the morning. I’d nearly forgotten how spectacular the Wellington sky can be when she opens up, so blue! There wasn’t a cloud in sight. It felt so good to be outdoors, I even had my guns out! That is before the wind picked up, as expected, windy-welly. We headed out to the Botanic Gardens for a day in the sun. Both hubby and I haven’t really explored the grounds before, perfect day for it. Poor RL was pushing his brother in the pram around the main garden and it’s front wheel hit an uneven surface. The pram nearly tipped and RL got the biggest fright in fear he’d hurt AG, he was so upset. As expected cheeky little AG thought it was hilarious, he’s rough as guts.

We parked up on the lawn, and while daddy chased the boys around I got to finish the last pages of my book, bliss! I couldn’t help but notice a young girl not too far from us baking in the sun. The mother in me wanted to walk over and hand her my sunscreen, I get anxiety watching people toast themselves for hours on end. It made me think back to my youth when I wasn’t applying sunscreen correctly. I only paid attention to protecting my face and neck. It definitely paid off, however I am starting to see the sun’s effects on the rest of my body, particularly my hands and chest. Knowing how well I have protected my face, I truly wish I had lathered my whole body my entire life. I’m quite religious when it comes to my children, they don’t make it easy for me though. It takes both my husband and I’s strength to pin the boy’s down and apply their sunscreen. Today was a good day, the boys had fun drawing on each others faces with it, too cute.

I’ve recently switched up my sunscreen and…YOU GUYS!!…It’s such a great product. I am really loving the Banana Boat Dry Balance SPF50+ it’s super lightweight with a soft matte finish. My skin feels as if it can breathe. This is KEY when it comes to the beauty products I use, I can’t stand anything heavy or greasy on my skin. Even my husband is convinced it’s the best thing since sliced bread he is not a fan of anything oily that’s not edible. The boys, well they still hate sunscreen, mummy will just have to get faster at applying it lol. On that note, they have much more fun applying a spray sunscreen, Banana Boat have both lotion and spray formulations, phew! PS. My kiddies NEVER keep their hats on, so I use the spray on their scalps, super easy.

My sun-smart tips are simple, hat, sunnies and slather on that sunscreen like its nobodys business. Apply your sunscreen 20 minutes before you go outside and reapply every 2 hours. You’ll need 7 teaspoons to cover your whole body. TIP – I initially use a lotion before leaving home and take a spray to top up when needed. Don’t forget seek shade! Isaac and I try to keep the kids out of the the sun between 10am-2pm, when the sun’s rays are strongest. Rest assured Banana Boat Dry Balance provides safe and effective broad spectrum SPF50+ UVA and UVB protection, so they’ve got you covered, quite literally haha.

I am a true advocate for being SunSmart, my husband calls me the sunscreen police for goodness sake! So who better to team up with Banana Boat and run a giveaway that will help you get prepared and protected as New Zealand heats up! I’ve got a Banana Boat Dry Balance  SPF50+ product bundle valued at $100 to give away! My favourite activity to do in the sun is to go to the beach and have a picnic. Love Pilot Bay for this as, I can usually find a bit of shelter under the trees.

A favourite activity of ours to do on a sunny day is go for a bushwalk for sure! We love getting in amongst the beauty of nature. Often the walks lead us to waterfalls, lakes, beaches or historic sites. That’s what makes it more interesting. We honestly aren’t sunsmart enough though, which has definitely taken its toll on us.

It’s always the beach or the river for us on sunny days. We pack up the chilly bin, the toys and the dog and off we go, it’s bliss. I have 4 water babies so we go through a ton of sunscreen even with them wearing rash shirts 😂 here’s a tip for you, applying sunscreen over sandy skin is hard, painful and the coverage is not overly reliable, I take talcum powder to the beach with me – it somehow makes the sand brush right off and you can apply the sunscreen more evenly without exfoliating the poor wee things.
