When we shot at Ranui Essentials one year ago it was at the end of their visiting season. It was EXTREMELY hard to keep these pictures from you until the following summer! Now that Lavender fields around New Zealand are in bloom I’m so excited to share the most picture-perfect location for a fun-filled Wairarapa family day. This location was actually the inspiration behind the collaboration, so this post is a-lil-bit-spesh to both Jenny and me.
Nestled 8kms out of Martinborough, amongst the vineyards and iconic olive groves, you’ll find a whimsical lavender farm known as Ranui Essentials. First, you’ll be greeted by a sweet herbal scent, carried on the warm summer breeze, then a small trek to the venue where you’ll pay your $5 fee (kids free). From here you are free to stroll amongst the purple paradise and pick your very own bunch while being treated to a sweeping and spectacular background overlooking the Wairarapa Tararua Ranges. Ranui Essentials encourage you to bring a picnic to enjoy, there’s plenty of space to sit for a moment. Be sure to wear sunscreen, bring hats and plenty of hydration, you’ll work up a thirst sashaying through the rows of lavender.
There’s also a quaint little store open most weekends with an assortment of lavender products, bone china, patchwork creations, homemade cards, linens and homespun babywear all of which are created by artisans from the Wairarapa community. Husband and I are both huge fans of the medicinal and hygienic benefits of Lavender, we picked up a bottle of their award-winning oil and facial toner. Glad to share one year later we still shop for our Lavendar products here, they are amazing!
Want a tour of the farm? Call in advance to organise one with Tracy and learn more about the farm and the four Lavender varieties they grow. If you are lucky enough you may even get to see the lavender distillery in operation around harvest time.
