On entry, you’ll follow a tree-lined driveway where you’ll be greeted by native bush and heritage old-world trees. I had to pirouette to fully comprehend the beauty that surrounded us. From the architecture, heritage grandstand, the beautiful Tauherenikau river and secret-garden-like terrain, it’s truly a grand sight to see!
The newly restored tea-house known as Rose & Smith is named in honour of the original “Rose & Smith Builders” who built it in 1923 (that’s a bit cute!). There’s something timeless and effortlessly romantic about a venue with history in its bones wouldn’t you agree? I had a chance to chat away with Paula, artisan behind all things Rose & Smith and learned how amazingly passionate she is about creating the best experience not only for her clients but guests attending the events and weddings she plans there.
What I loved about shooting at this property was all the time-worn imperfections and character, much like life, it’s the imperfections that make it oh-so-perfect. If you’re looking for stunning scenery to serve as the backdrop of your big event then Rose & Smith certainly has it covered.
Husband considers his childhood home the Wairarapa to be his “true” home, the place he felt happiest. Each photoshoot here in the Wairarapa sparks a sense of nostalgia for him, particularly fond memories that talk to his inner child. There’s a moment of reflection I can see in my husband’s eyes on shoots like these, I can sense his deep happiness to be home. Living in the Wairarapa for a year now I too share that contentment. There’s still so much to share and discover here. I am so blessed that the move to the Wairarapa, thus far, has been so beneficial for our whanau as a whole and individually.
Below you’ll see sneaky moments (in the background) of Rose & Smith wedding styling. I took a moment to spy on the Rose & Smith team at work. Look into the background, it was such an elegant set-up and the hall smelt divine from all the florals!
