Cape Palliser Lighthouse – 5 Year Anniversary

Celebrating an anniversary shows that marriage is a priority. It gives us a chance to relive a moment that changed our lives forever. Each celebration, birthday, anniversary etc deepens in its meaning as time goes on, we are here for a short time not a long time, every moment is truly precious. We decided that for our next Wairarapa Family Shoot Series with Love Mi Photo we’d also celebrate our 5th Year Wedding Anniversary, and so, here we are, capturing-memories at one of Wairarapa’s most iconic landmarks and additionally one of New Zealand’s biggest attractions, the Cape Palliser Lighthouse.

We often get asked for recommendations for places to head out for a day trip here in the Wairarapa and Cape Palliser is generally our first suggestion. It’s a magnificently scenic drive with steep rugged cliffs to one side and a boundless ocean with black-sand beaches on the other. We love to host our whanau and friends out here especially now that we have a Jeep set-up that ensures we can have family-fun amongst the elements. The surrounding shoreline is the North Island’s largest breeding area and home to a seal colony, so you’ll also make some fuzzy friends during your visit.

Cape Palliser Lighthouse is at the southern-most tip of the North Island, there’s a steep climb of 252 stairs to reach the top! The reward once you’ve made it, extraordinary lush green bushland and cinematic coastal views. Palliser Bay was the location of over 20 shipwrecks in the 19th century and when you witness the dramatic coastline it’s easy to understand the need for the lighthouse, built in 1897. I have a love for lighthouses, always standing strong amongst chaos and the rugged, never trying to be beautiful yet so picturesque.

5 Years of loving you Mr Carlson and 9 years of us, the best decision I ever made was saying YES! and though our marriage isn’t perfect (nobodies is) it is pure and true, I’m so grateful for you and the life we are creating for our whanau. I love you.
