Art has been such a huge part of my life. Our matriarch of the whānau, mum, was always creating. Our clothes were all handmade by our mother, and sold in our family business, a children’s clothing store. Painting, pottery, screenprinting, baking, weaving to gardening and even floristry, mum has always been my most inspiring role model and always shared and encouraged us to be part of a colourful world. Naturally, I went on to study the arts in a number of area’s and have different qualifications and certifications I am extremely proud of. I have mum to thank for that, and so, I dedicate this space of the blog for her (love you mum).
I will be attending workshops all across the Wairarapa and this is where you’ll find our creative vendors and artists hosting them. I will continue to update this blogpost one-workshop-at-a-time and here you will find all the info you’ll ever need.
- Natural Dye Class
- Duration: 3 Hours (approx.)
- Location: Featherston, Wairarapa South
- Cost: $95pp
Keiry Belton, The Kindly Dyer, hosts her famous Natural Dye Classes at the Palliser Ridge Woolshed. You will receive 3x 50g skeins of pre-mordanted Palliser Ridge natural lamb’s wool, if that’s not enough there is extra wool for purchase. Try different natural dyes, from both locally sourced plant materials and exotic natural dye materials and enjoy getting creative experimenting with combinations of dyes and techniques to create a range of colours. What’s extra special is the wool used is from the exact woolshed we worked away in, shorn off Palliser Ridges very own well-loved lambs! The cost includes a delicious afternoon tea and beverages. My wool turned out exactly how I wanted it, a warm-walnut colour, and as it be, made with real walnut dye! My talented mum weaved my wool into my husbands Korowai. So special!
